One of the Bible studies that I lead is a group consisting of college and career adults. I love the age group because, for the most part, they are highly motivated and excited about life and the potential ahead of them. The danger which they might not always see is the effects that material success might bring. One pastor put it this way: “Our greatest fear should not be of failure but of succeeding at things in life that don’t really matter.” A passage in scripture that really brings this home is John 15:5 where Jesus tells his disciples, “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without me you can do nothing.“ This reminds us all that success is really only success if the things which we are accomplishing are a result of being in Christ, and being filled with the Spirit. Someone might argue,  “I know I’ve walked away from God for a while now, but I really work hard at my job, I have a great house, a really nice car and can eat out anytime I want.” According to John 15:5, the Lord Jesus would respond:  “It means nothing to me. It means nothing for the kingdom. It means nothing for eternity. To “abide in Christ” means “to pitch a tent with Jesus.” It is like going on a camping trip with Jesus alone, to talk and learn. It means to observe his ways, his demeanor, his emotions, and his character.  In the early 1970s the film, Jeremiah Johnson, told of the life of a man who left the world behind to become a mountain man in solitude. After a while he was failing miserably until he stumbled upon an older experienced mountain man. This man saw Jeremiah‘s plight and offered him help. The old man spent days teaching and showing the young man the ways of the mountains so he would not only survive, but flourish and “bear much fruit.” In the case of the true followers of Jesus it is abiding in Jesus that brings about real spiritual fruit. Earlier in John 15,  Jesus stated, Abide in me, and I in you. The branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.” (v. 4)  Hard work is great, but don’t put “the cart before the horse.” Hard work apart from Jesus builds a life of clay that one day crumbles. Hard work and passion that results from a life that has been not only redeemed by Jesus, but empowered by walking daily with Jesus builds an ironclad life with continuing results and eternal consequences! Now here’s an additional bonus to all of this: “abiding in Jesus” is the secret to real happiness. In fact, it is the only way to obtain a deep-in-the-soul joy that doesn’t fade over time. Jesus guarantees it: “those things I have spoken to you that, my joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.”(John 15:11)

Abiding in Jesus,
Pastor Scott Johnson

There is a war on masculinity, and everywhere we look—on every front we hold sacred—we can see the painful reminders of this collapsing order. The chaos and crisis we are experiencing today should be a signal for men everywhere to rise up; to fight to preserve our way of life by once again walking the ancient paths. But this isn’t a journey that need be taken alone.

In The Warrior Poet Way, public speaker, former Army Ranger, and all-around patriot John Lovell offers a needed antidote to the lack of strong men in our modern world. This is a call to all men to be what they truly are. Both dangerous and good. Lovers and fighters. Lions and lambs.

The American Founders believed that a republic depends on certain masculine virtues. Senator Josh Hawley thinks they were right. In a bold new book, he calls on American men to stand up and embrace their God-given responsibility as husbands, fathers, and citizens.

No republic has ever survived without men of character to defend what is just and true. Starting with the wisdom of the ancients, from the Greek and Roman philosophers to Jesus of Nazareth, and drawing on the lessons of American history, Hawley identifies the defining strengths of men, including responsibility, bravery, fidelity, and leadership.

The Titus 2 model of older women living out the gospel alongside younger women is vital for us all to thrive. It is mutually strengthening, glorifies God, and makes His truth believable to our world.

Imagine older women investing themselves in the lives of younger women, blessing whole families and churches. Imagine young wives, moms, and singles gaining wisdom and encouragement from women who’ve been there and have found God’s ways to be true and good. Imagine all women—from older women to young girls—living out His transforming gospel together, growing the entire body of Christ to be more beautiful.

This is Christian community as God designed it. Read this book and take your relationships to new depths, that your life might find its fullest meaning as you adorn the gospel of Christ.

Satan is the master deceiver; his lies are endless. And the lies Christian women believe are at the root of most of their struggles.

“Many women live under a cloud of personal guilt and condemnation,” says Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth. “Many are in bondage to their past. Others are gripped by fear of rejection and a longing for approval. Still others are emotional prisoners.”

Sammy the cactus is stuck—sticky stuck in the ground to be exact, with no way to move, run, or roam. Snake can slither. Hawk can soar. Jackrabbit can hop. But Sammy? He must stay rooted in one spot. This makes him sad, and he begins to wish he could be more like his desert friends.

But could there be a reason Sammy is planted in one place? In this fun, rhyming board book for children ages 2-6, Sammy discovers that God made him sticky stuck on purpose so that he can help his community of friends!

Our children are facing cultural “giants” that previous generations could never have imagined. Secularism, depravity, immorality, and apathy taunt Christians with a barrage of hate and intolerance. Will our children be equipped to stand strong against these giants, or will they be overcome? That is the question Christian parents are asking. In this book, Ken Ham gives us a powerful and up-to-date message about the importance of raising strong believers who can stand in the face of a world that will challenge, disparage, and seek to eliminate their faith. He also helps prepare parents to equip the next generation to thrive in the face of cultural adversity and emerge as tomorrow’s Christian leaders.
